Accepting New Clients for Telehealth and In-Person Sessions (In-Person available in St. George, Utah, only)

I utilize Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) to help clients identify and dispute problematic beliefs, and reframe them into productive patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. With REBT, you can learn to reduce and manage your anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, rage, shame, and/or addictive behaviors. We work together to identify, dispute, and reframe your rigid demands or dire needs into strong, healthy preferences, and your catastrophic thinking into proportionate appraisals of activating events.

My therapeutic approach focuses on anxiety, anger management, depression, and alcohol and substance use disorders. I also have experience in treating Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Using a harm reduction approach, we work together to help you find your motivation to change.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I hold licenses to practice in Arizona, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. I received my MSW from Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work in 2012. I previously earned my Bachelor's Degree in Film Studies at Northwestern University in 2004, and worked as an on-air commercial radio host from 2005-2009.

FAQ

What are your specialties?

I specialize in Anger Management, Anxiety Management, Harm Reduction treatment for Addiction, Depression Management, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. All of my work with clients is conducted through the theory and practice of REBT.

Just what is REBT?

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy is the original Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The philosophy behind it is that we create our emotions through our beliefs, our appraisals, and interpretations of events in the world. The events do not directly create our emotional and behavioral reactions. Our irrational beliefs create unhealthy negative emotions that can lead to maladaptive, impulsive behaviors. The goal of REBT is to learn to identify these irrational beliefs and dispute them using logic and reasoning, and functional arguments (“Is my belief true? Is it beneficial?”), and then to reframe the belief into proportionate and preferential terms in order to move from unhealthy to healthy emotions.

Where did you get your training?

I attended Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work from January 2011 through August 2012, earning my Masters in Social Work (MSW). My studies include a clinical concentration, emphasizing providing direct therapeutic services to clients, with a special focus on Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders. My fieldwork took place at Resurrection Behavioral Health in Melrose Park, IL, where I learned to conduct intake assessments of new clients, as well as facilitate treatment groups for substance use disorders.

In December 2016, I attended my first training held by the Chicago Institute for REBT, held at Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center on Chicago’s West Side. This was my first exposure to REBT. The training was run by Terry London and Michael Shearer, both of whom had learned to practice REBT from Albert Ellis himself at the Albert Ellis Institute. Following this first training, I committed myself to learning the theory and practice of REBT by attending weekly supervision groups at Above and Beyond, held by London for staff and interns, for over two years.

What is your professional experience?

I have had the privilege of working in both community mental health and private practice during my career. Most recently I worked for a large group practice in downtown Chicago, while also volunteering my time as a Clinical Supervisor for staff and interns at Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center. Prior to this, I worked in the near Southwest Side of Chicago at a large community mental health agency. My first job after graduating from my MSW program was at Resurrection Behavioral Health in Westchester, IL, working directly with clients referred by U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services.
